Holidays, a great time to read.

Today is the first day of the holidays and hopefully 9Skn students were able to sleep in a little later. Some will have sport, music and other activities to keep them busy over the two weeks. Don't forget to make time to read, I am sure you are all members of your local libraries. I am a fan of the Riccarton Library because it has the amazing RED cafe there. A combination of two of my favourite things - Coffee and Books! If you haven't quite finished I am not Esther, then use this time to catch up. Here is a Christchurch Library Book Blog to look at if you need some inspiration for finding a good book.

Reflecting on Te Wiki o te Reo Maori

I have been reflecting on Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori here at Burnside. We have had a variety of activities each lunchtime which have involved a  large number of students. There has been lots of new learning and lots of fun.
As a staff we have also been involved in using Te Reo in our classrooms. One way is by using Whakatauki or proverbs. I enjoy using the words of people I believe to have something worthwhile to convey. Here is my pick for this week - It conveys the idea of the importance of language. The language of Te Reo and also my subject, English.

Ko te reo te tuakiri
Ko te reo tōku ahurei

Ko te reo te ora.

Language is my identity.

Language is my uniqueness.

Language is life.

An Amazing Discovery From a Robot

The amazing Rover on Mars called ‘Curiosity’ has been taking pictures of the ground on Mars.
This camera view hasn't been used for 6 months.

Its amazing that how Curiousity has its own Twitter account and it tweets what he has found! Curiousity also has  his own  FourSquare, where he checks in on where he has been on Mars!
