We real cool

We chose this poem because the poem connects us with our school life. In the first stanza it says that they are cool because they left school. They are sabotaging themselves by not going to school and living up to their potential. Instead of being cool, they spend their days hanging round with their friends and wasting time. Even though they think they are cool, they have failed to reach their potential and contribute in a positive way to society. That way somehow describes us by thinking not to go to school would be cool.
Geraldine Brooks wrote this poem in 1959 but the words are still relevant today. This poem connects to one of Ms Hendersons favourite songs, "Young Homie" by Chris Rene. One line is "Life's too short, gotta live it long"
